Don't be a Slave to Gas Prices

Gas prices today continue to rise at a steady pace and the need for cost cutting measures by us individuals has become a way of life.
I can remember growing up living with my parents in the 1960s and early 70s and seeing the price of gas at 25 to 27 cents a gallon
and hearing my dad complain when it would go up to 30 cents a gallon at times. If only he could see the price of gas today, he would
probably turn over in his grave and yell what the hell is going on here.
I don't know about you but when I see the price jump from $2.55 a gallon to $2.68 I get kinda sad and upset thinking as to how far
will this go!I can remember two years ago when it was $4.20 a gallon,I started riding my bicycle to work everyday.Thankfully the ride was only four miles.Well then I decided I could ride my bike to the store with a cart on the back to carry groceries.Don't get me wrong,I know it was good exercise but I sure did wish I could be driving the car at times. The trip by bike would take me about 25 to 30 minutes compared to 8 to 10 minutes by car.On warm summer days that year I got to sweating pretty good by the time I got to the store. And the feel of the air running when I walked in the store was a nice cool feeling.I would stay in the store extra amount of time just to cool off for a while.Later on that summer the cost of gas did go down which was good to see,but it left me a little gun shy when it
came to using the car again. So I continued to ride my bicycle as often as I could until it got cold and the snow started to fly in my
area.
Todays gas prices aren't as bad as then but I do wonder if and when they will reach that height again. So over the last few months I have
been looking at ways to cut back on fuel useage and I did learn some interesting way to help cut down on the cost and make less trips to the store or whatever I need to go do with the car.I try to limit my trips to grocery stores per week as much as I can.If I can double up trips to the store and somewhere else for instance,I find that helps a lot.Sometimes if the weather is good and the store is not to far away, taking a walk to the store works good too.And yes I still do ride my bicycle to the store quite often. There are also tips and tricks on the internet you can read up on to help you out as well. The next time you you get gas at a gas station try turning the nozzle of the hose a full 180 degrees. This will drain a bit more gas into your tank,in some cases up to an entire half-cup that would otherwise be a bonus to the next gas customer.
There are many sites on the Internet that will help you find the cheapest gas in your area. One of of these is gas buddy. Now thats just a couple of things you can do to help you out. There are many more and I could go on for a while.
The main thing to realize is you don't have continue to pay for the high cost of fuel and not do anything to help yourself out.Take measures into your own hands and save what you can, where you can.Tune up your vehicle regulary, change the oil when it's time to and coast to a stop at red lights or stop sighs when you are able too. These and several more things are just some of the ideas you can use to save on fuel costs. If you have and like to ride a motorcycle quite often,it can also be a great help. You don't have be a slave to high gas prices if you just think before you go somewhere in your car and use the fuel in your tank needlessly.
